Health Tip: How Diabetes Affects Oral Health
It raises risk of gum disease

(HealthDay News) -- Diabetes increases your risk for developing a number of health problems, including issues with your mouth, teeth and gums.

The Mouthhealthy.org website says diabetics are at heightened risk for these oral health conditions:

  • Gum disease, which can be more severe and occur more often in people with diabetes.
  • Fungal infections, which can cause mouth sores and painful swallowing.
  • Infection after dental surgery.
  • Increased healing time after dental surgery.
